Collegiate Competition

The Collegiate Championship we participated in was held December 27, 2004 and brought in 94 competitors from 19 different schools in the US. The competition includes three divisions: novice, intermediate, and masters based on the number of jumps.

The events for this year were: Freefall Style, Accuracy Landing, Sport Accuracy, and Formation Skydiving, along with freeflying as a test event.

Competing in the 2-way formation skydiving, Sean Tallant and Monique Lopes showed off their skills that they learned at Skydive Wissota. Sean was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire majoring in Marketing with an emphasis in entrepreneurship. Monique attends the University of Minnesota in the School of Pharmacy, specializing in pediatric critical care.

With only completing their static line course in late July 2004, Sean and Monique were elated to tie for 5th place in their event. When asked about their experience they said, “being new jumpers and traveling without your mentors to compete for the first time can be a bit intimidating but the competition was a valuable experience all around.” The two not only talked about the fun jumps they made, they also commented on all of the amazing skydivers they met from around the world

The collegiate competition had completed by noon on the third day and the competitors were able to make fun jumps and get ready for the awards banquet. You can reference the University of MN U Skydiving page by clicking here.
